Deep Tissue Massage

Toronto deep tissue massage

Quality deep tissue massage in Toronto

Deep Tissue Massage in Toronto is extremely popular. This is likely because it penetrates into the deeper layers of musculature and allows your therapist to manually reset normal resting muscle tone to ease pain, discomfort, and induce relaxation.  It achieves this by increasing circulation to the muscles, breaking apart muscle fibers that have become adhered together (knot), and by treating active trigger points that can cause a lot of pain.

It is especially helpful for

  • Neck stiffness

  • Low back tightness

  • Sore shoulders

  • Chronic pain and tension

  • Sports injuries

  • Joint stiffness

  • general muscular tension

  • tension headaches

  • mobility issues

Some of the same strokes are used as Classic Swedish Massage but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. Your therapist may use elbows or forearms in order to thoroughly work the areas of concern. These areas are worked until the pain is released, leaving you with a feeling of instant relief.

Relaxing and Restorative

All our Deep Tissue Massages are completed with a few relaxation techniques to help ease the nervous system and induce a state of relaxation.

At MyoCare RMT all our Massage Therapists are highly trained, and have a minimum of 6 years experience providing Deep Tissue Massage in Toronto. So if your goals are to decrease pain, tension and increase mobility we find that Deep Tissue Massage usually has the most therapeutic benefit

Frequently asked questions about Deep Tissue Massage

  1. Does Deep tissue massage hurt?

No, a deep tissue massage should not be painful.  In areas of tension it can sometimes be a little uncomfortable, this is normal.  If the deep tissue massage is causing to much pain, your muscles will contract to protect themselves and it will be very difficult to get the muscles to relax.  This is why it is important to stay in communication with your massage therapist, and let them know if they are pressing a bit to hard.  Generally you do not want to go above a 4 on a pain scale of 1-10. 1 being no pain, and 10 being excruciating pain.  All our RMT’s are very experienced in providing deep tissue massage in Toronto, therefor you are in good hands.

2.  Will I be sore after a deep tissue massage?

You can feel a bit sore after a deep tissue massage.  In most cases there is no discomfort after the treatment, but it does happen upon occasion.  This reaction is completely normal, and is usually caused because your muscles are not used to being manipulated and worked on.  This discomfort can last 1-2 days, and is similar to the feeling you get after exercising. Taking a warm epson salt bath, and staying well hydrated after thedeep tissue massage can help reduce this discomfort.  The more deep tissue massages you receive, the less you will have this post massage discomfort.  This is because your tissues will get used to being manipulated, and will relax much easier.

3.  Can I receive deep tissue massages on my legs and arms as well, or just my back?

Deep tissue massage can be performed on any part of the body.  The pressure will be modified by your massage therapist depending on the size and location of the muscle.  This ensures that the muscle is properly treated, without injuring it.

4.  Can deep tissue massage be combined with other types of massage treatments?

Yes.  In most cases, here at Myocare RMT, our massage therapy treatments use a combination of different modalities to achieve our clients massage goals.  This means we usually perform deep tissue massage, with a few relaxation techniques, and perhaps start off with some myofascial release.  Before you start your massage therapy treatment make sure you clearly discuss  your massage goals with your RMT.  This way she can tailor a massage treatment specifically to you.

5.  Can I tell my massage therapist if I feel like she/he is pressing to hard, or if I want her/him to press harder?

Absolutely!  It is very important to stay in communication with your massage therapist during your deep tissue massage.  Do not hesitate to let them know if you want them increase or decrease their pressure
